A teacher disclosed that out of the six Area Councils in Abuja, only Bwari has failed to pay primary school teachers their salary for the month of June.

Teachers of public primary schools in Bwari Local Council of Abuja, on Wednesday, staged a protest, shutting schools in the nation’s capital. It was gathered that the move by the teachers was not unconnected with the delay in their salary for the month of June

The primary school teachers further announced an industrial action two days into the third term examination for the pupils in the FCT.

It was gathered that pupils who had left home for school in the early hours of Wednesday were sent back by the teachers.

A primary school teacher in Kubwa, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in the Bwari Area Council gave notice of strike via a circular on Tuesday.

Another teacher further disclosed that out of the six Area Councils in Abuja, only Bwari has failed to pay the teachers their salary for the month of June, adding that all efforts made by the NUT to get the salary proved abortive.

The development was confirmed by the Vice Chairman of the Bwari Area Council, Aminu Musa, noting that the issue was sorted out on Tuesday night and the salary would be released on Wednesday.
