Hushpuppi the Internet celebrity and Suspected Nigerian fraudster, has hired Loius Shapiro who is a top-rated criminal defense lawyer, to represent him in his trial in the United States.
Let’s recall that Vicki Podberesky and Gal Pissetzky his former US Lawyers recently applied to withdraw from his case.
According to the international lawyers, he said Mr. Abass (Hushpuppi) who is currently facing fraud-related and money laundering charges, stopped communicating with them and has retained new lawyers to defend him in the case.
The US lawyers decided to withdraw from the case after months of negotiations with the United States Government.
Meanwhile, a Judge granted Vicki Podberesky and Gal Pissetzky withdrawal from the case on February 22nd, and a request seeking the approval of Mr. Shapiro as Hushpuppi’s new defense counsel was granted on February 25.
The report has it that Mr. Shapiro who earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law began his career with the New York State Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer.
Mr. Shapiro also worked at several agencies including the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Detainee Unit and clerked for the federal public defender’s office in Los Angeles. Mr. Shapiro, a certified criminal law specialist by the State Bar of California, serves as a Criminal Justice Act Federal Trial Panel attorney for the Central District of California.
