General Stephen Townsend of the US-Africa command has revealed that America will supply sophisticated fighter aircraft to Nigeria in 2021
Townsend disclosed that the federal government bought the aircraft to tackle insurgency
The United States has said that it is making plans to supply 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft to Nigeria as it continues to battle terrorism.
This was revealed on Friday, February 26, by General Stephen Townsend, the commander of US-Africa command, Daily Nigerian reports.
General Townsend explained that the federal government bought the A-29 aircraft in 2020
He noted:
“As close partners, the U.S. and Nigeria have worked at ensuring the collaborative relationship continues to grow to include a commitment to interoperability.
“Nigeria purchased 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, which will be delivered later this year.”

The US military officer assured the government that the command will do its part to advance the security cooperation so that citizens go about their normal activities without fear of any sort.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had announced the burial arrangement for its seven officers who died in a tragic and unfortunate plane crash in Abuja on Sunday, February 21.
Air Vice-Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, the director of public relations and information, said the chief of air staff, Air Vice-Marshal I O Amao, had ordered an investigation into the tragic development as he commiserated with the families of the deceased.
