Sunusi was said to be dismantling iron rods under a bridge in Bichi town in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday when it fell on him.
Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident.
He said: “We received a distress call from the Divisional Crime Officer, Bichi Police Station, at about 8.30 am that a bridge had collapsed on a man.
“On receiving the information, we promptly dispatched our rescue team to the scene at 8.35 am.”
According to Abdullahi, Sunusi was rescued from underneath the bridge and rushed to the Bichi General Hospital for medical attention, where the doctor on duty later confirmed him dead.
He said the cause of his death was blamed on the rod he dismantled under the bridge, which unfortunately fell on him.
