Gang, responsible for killing a Catholic priest in Benue has been sentenced to death by hanging.
The two surviving kidnappers and murderers of Fr John Adeyi have been sentenced to death by hanging, by Makurdi High Court earlier today 25th July.
Father Adeyi, the Vicar General of Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and Parish Priest of Catholic Church Okpoga, who was kidnapped sometime in 2016 by unknown gunmen. The cleric was however later killed and his body dumped in a farm near Otukpa.
It was gathered that four of the kidnappers were arrested by a team of the Nigerian police led by ACP Abba Kyari few months after. .
In a verdict on Wednesday, the court found the two surviving suspects guilty and sentenced the kidnappers to death by hanging. Reacting to the judgment, the family of the late cleric in a statement, described the court’s verdict as justice at last.
A certain Suleiman Gina, 30, was believed to be the mastermind of the killer squad. His other team members includes a 28-year-old Saidu Abdullahi, who was said to be the second in command while Aliyu Garba, 26, Haruna Idi, 26 were also members of the gang.
