You Are Playing With The Destiny Of 200m Nigerians – Senator Okon Tells Buhari

0

Akwa Ibom Leaders Vanguard has accused the Federal Government of gambling with the destiny of over 200m Nigerians, as it is alleged to have continued to pay lip service to the fight against insecurity in the country.

The group has regretted that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government has not only watched the Boko Haram expand their tenacity but has also watched the terrorist group birthed an array of different terror groups, including the Fulani Herdsmen which has the notoriety of being ranked the 4th deadliest on global terror groups.

In an interaction with newsmen in Uyo at the weekend, Leader of the Group, Sen. Anietie Okon said the present administration has failed in its constitutional responsibility which places on government the duty to ensure the security and welfare of the people Taking the Federal Government on its electioneering pledge to battle corruption to a standstill, he said, “The fight against corruption has been one of mere theatrics, all motion without movement as is always said of the proverbial barbers’ Chair”

He re-echoed the recent eight-question tweeter points of the former governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose who queried the whereabouts of the recovery funds and other inconclusive cases of corruption in the country.

Speaking on the proposed Electoral Amendment Bill, Sen. Okon alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), connived with the All Progressives Congress-led Federal government to ensure that the 2019 election results were not transmitted electronically.

Okon revealed that while the APC-led federal government gave Nigerians excuses of not being able to transmit the said results electronically, they,  however, used the same law to conduct off-season elections in Edo and Ondo states, and transmitted the results electronically.

He, therefore, warned against unnecessary insertions, stressing that for Nigeria to continue as one,  the electoral laws must be put right to avoid manipulations.

In his words “I am sure you are aware of the skirt they are flying. After the Committee has done its work, some people went and inserted something just to gauge the reactions of Nigerians.

” We were all here when the same INEC  conducted off-season elections in Edo and Ondo states, the results were sent electronically and everybody was happy with the outcome of the results.

“The Electoral laws that were used to administer the 2019 elections were still the same law that was in place when the Edo and Ondo states elections were conducted. Because of the fear of losing the 2019 election, they started denying and giving excuses until the government came up and said it was too late.

“I still believe till today that INEC connived with the government of the day to ensure that the election results were not transmitted electronically. If we must have one Nigeria, if there is still hope of staying together, we must get the rights of our Electoral law”
