The attack comes two days to a ”Yoruba rally” scheduled for July 3 in Lagos by Igboho.
A close ally of Igboho told TheCable that some gunmen raided the house located in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo state, around 1 am. According to him, the gunmen seemed prepared for the attack as they targeted places where people sleep in the house. He said they gained entry into vital areas.
He said: “There is blood everywhere. They destroyed all the cars in the house; Prado Jeep, G-Wagon and other cars including the ones belonging to his staff. They were all destroyed. You can see gun shots on the walls and on the windows.
“They shot at the cars and riddled the glasses and doors with bullets. People don’t sleep in cars at night, so why pumping so much bullets in them? From the look of things, they were ready for the attack. It was planned, well coordinated.”
Asked if Igboho was in the house during the attack, the aide said his principal was not around.
“This is the house where he lives in Ibadan but he is not around now. The attackers did not meet him at home,” he said.
One of the media aides of Igboho, Olayomi Koiki, also confirmed the attack on social media. He claimed that men in army uniforms carried out the attack.
Another media aide to the youth leader, Dapo Salami, told TheCable via telephone conversation that two people were killed by the attackers while the CCTVs in Igboho’s room and other areas of the house were taken away.
“Two people were confirmed killed but there could be more. They shot hundreds of bullets into the house. The CCTV in Igboho’s house was taken away. The attackers also took away jewellery and huge amount of cash belonging to Igboho and his family. They came around 1 am and left around 2.30am. They actually took their time to attack the house. We can confirmed that the attackers were in army and DSS uniforms,” he said.
Adewale Oyefeso, public relations officer of the Oyo state police command, has not responded to the attack. His mobile telephone line was busy when TheCable called for a reaction and he has not replied to a message sent to him as of the time of filing the report.
This is not the first time Igboho’s house has come under attack. One of his houses in the area was allegedly set on fire by gunmen who invaded the residence on January 26, 2021. Igboho said at the time those who set the house on fire were loyalists of Fulani herders.
On April 26, 2021, his second house, also located in Soka area, was attacked. TheCable reported at the time that there were conflicting reports about those who carried out the attack, but a media aide of Igboho claimed soldiers were behind the attack which happened around 2 am.
