FC Barcelona is set to announce this week that captain Lionel Messi has signed a new deal with the club.
Messi's current deal with the Laliga giants comes to an end in less than a week with reports rife that the club has been working round the clock to ensure that a new deal is in place before the end of this month according to reports from Football Espana.
The reports claim that Messi will sign a new two-year deal following positive talks with the deal set to be made official in the course of the week with the club's media and social media team being briefed to prepare material for the announcement.
Messi who has been with Barca for his entire career so far, scoring a staggering 672 goals in total for the Catalan giants had been linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer with both PSG and Manchester City said to have enquired about the player.
In his time at Barca, the Argentine has won ten La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns to establish himself as arguably one of the greatest footballers of all time. The player however threatened to leave the club last summer before making a U-turn in the final days of the transfer window.
