Buhari led FG Promises 1 Million Jobs to Nigerians
The Federal Government has announced that the Digital Switch-Over in Lagos would begin on April 29, as the country switches from analogue to digital broadcasting.
It also stated that over one million jobs are expected to be created as a result of the programme.
When the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, led the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture’s Ministerial Taskforce on Digital Switchover on a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos House, Marina, he revealed this.
Mr Mohammed explained that the decision to switch to digital television was made in response to an agreement reached on June 16, 2006 at the Regional Radio Communication Conference (RRC-06) in Geneva, Switzerland, to implement ‘all-digital’ terrestrial broadcast services for sound and television by June 17, 2015.
He claims that this would result in a more equal, just, and people-centered knowledge society, bridging the digital divide by connecting underserved populations and remote communities.
According to him, the proposed rollout in Lagos will be a watershed moment for the DSO and the creative industry, as it will create over one million jobs across the country.
”On April 30, 2016, we began the DSO rollout in Jos, Plateau State. Since then, we’ve expanded to four more provinces: Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Osun, as well as the FCT , taking the total number of states and the FCT to five.
”We are now working to reach the remaining 31 states as quickly as possible. On April 29, 2021, we will begin the new rollout in Lagos State.
”Kano State will be followed by Rivers State on July 8, 2021, Yobe State on July 15, 2021, and Gombe State on August 12, 2021, with more states to come after that.
”Our decision to bring the DSO to commercial centres around the country is reflectedin the launch in Lagos.
