ORJI KALU - GOVERNORS SHOULD STOP CRYING TO BUHARI OVER INSECURITY

0

Former Abia State Governor and current senator representing Abia South, Chief Orji Kalu, has said that Nigerian governors had more roles to play in solving the problem of insecurity in the country.

Kalu spoke on Thursday in Awka, Anambra State, during a visit to Stanel World, a business outfit owned by a private individual in the state.

He said, “The governors should play more role in tackling security problems in their states. We cannot be calling on the federal government at every slightest security problem.

“When I was the Governor of Abia State, I took the bull by the horn to solve security problems in my state. The people were not coming out when I became governor in 1999 and before six months you can leave your car and go anywhere. That’s the truth.

“Even, I lent the same style to Anambra State and cleared the criminals here.

“So, the governors have a lot of roles to play. You cannot be crying to President Buhari every time. It is not the job of the president. It is the job of the governors. The governors have a role to play and I maintain this stand.

“I was a governor for eight years. The governors have a role to play; play with traditional rulers, play with the heads of security in the state, play with the community. If you’re in good terms with the communities, they will always tell you who is committing the offence. I was ruthless with the criminals. I never cared. As long as you committed the offence, we come after you.”

Also speaking on the seeming controversy in the re-registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kalu said there is nothing that is done in the party that is unconstitutional, so long as the party agrees to it.

He said, “As long as the National Executive Council (NEC) of that party; that is the highest organ of the party has agreed to do anything, it becomes constitutional.
