AKPABIO TACKLES INEC OVER ELECTION RIGGING ALLEGATION

0

Apkabio,
the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep concern over a statement credited to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alleging that  a university don, Prof. Ignatius Uduk, rigged the 2019 election in his favour.

According to reports an Akwa Ibom State High Court had a few days ago ordered the arrest of Uduk.

But reacting to the INEC’s claim through its Head of Department, Voter Education, Odaro Aisien, Akpabio accused the electoral body of waging a war of calumny and character assasination against him.

The former governor, who ran for the 2019 senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), singled out Mike Igini, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner of Akwa Ibom State as allegedly  being the brain behind such malicious campaign

A statement made available to PlatinumPost and signed by Anietie Ekong, Chief Press Secretary to the minister, said the embattled Uduk was not the returning officer for Akpabio’s election and expressed surprise on the rationale for involving the former Senate Minority leader on  the court proceedings involving the lecturer.

The statement read: “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to a malicious statement by one Odaro Aisien, Head of Department, Voter Education, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the behest of the Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini attempting to link Senator Akpabio to whatever transpired at the High Court in Akwa Ibom State.

“In their desperation in a continuing campaign of calumny against Senator Akpabio, the INEC in Akwa Ibom State made spurious and unfounded allegations with the sole intention of tarnishing the image of Senator Akpabio.
