Woman killed as Police mistake her toy gun for real weapon

A woman was shot and later pronounced dead after she pointed what Police later discovered was a BB gun at officers who had tried unsuccessfully to make her surrender in a 90-minute stand-off.

BB guns are a type of air guns designed to shoot metallic ball projectiles called BBs.

The woman, Vanessa Marquez, a series regular actress on NBC’s hit drama “ER” from 1994-1997, was shot and killed by a South Pasadena Police Department officer during a welfare check early Thursday afternoon. She was 49.
