Prisoner celebrates 100th birthday in prison
Pa Celestine Egbunuche, dubbed Nigeria’s oldest prisoner, who clocked 100 over the weekend August 4, in the Enugu Maximum Prison.
Egbunuche, who hail from Akokwa, Imo State, was sentenced to death along with his son, Paul, and another relation, now 87, for engaging in a fight over a piece of land and in the process, somebody died. .
The convicts have already spent over 17 years in the prison. However, an NGO, Global Society for Anti-corruption (GSAC), is pushing for his release. .
Egbunuche is said to have suffered from diabetes over the years. GSAC has appealed to the FG and Governor Rochas Okorocha to use their board of mercy to release him, his 78 years old relation and son from prison.
