Ghana President Declares three days National Mourning for the Fire Victims

Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, which will commence from Monday, 8th of June for the victims of the fire at a petrol  station that claimed over 90 lives during the heavy flooding in the capital, Accra on Wednesday.

The President visited the scene yesterday described the loss of lives as “catastrophic and almost unprecedented”.  “Rescue operations will continue until the weekend, Sunday.  On Monday, we will observe three days of national mourning for the victims of the fire disaster and flooding,” he said.

The fire broke out at the filling station in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area of the city late on Wednesday night and is thought to have spread from a nearby residence.
